Autism Speaks: National Autism Awareness Month

Autism Speaks partnering with NBA to recognize April as National Autism Awareness Month. International organization Autism Speaks, the organization is dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
The league and its teams will raise fan awareness about autism through a variety of events, including:
• NBA teams including the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami HEAT, and the Toronto Raptors will host Autism Awareness Nights throughout the month of April. The in-arena nights will feature special broadcast messages, the distribution of educational materials, ticket programs and raffles to benefit autism research, player meet-and-greets for children with autism, and more.
• To commemorate World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, Madison Square Garden, Staples Center, and other prominent buildings worldwide will be lit blue as part of Autism Speaks’ Light It up Blue campaign.
