Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies was William Golding’s first novel, published in 1954. Lord of the Flies story about a group of British schoolboys stuck on a deserted island who tries to govern themselves without any adults.

On the Lord of the Flies, all of the boys are under 13. They have to come to some sort of government between the kids and the strong boys take over. They have planned to keep the fire burning bright enough so another ship can come and get them. Sadly enough they are scared into believing there is a monster on the island.

At an allegorical level, the central theme is the conflicting impulses toward civilization live by rules, peacefully and in harmony and towards the will to power. Different subjects include the tension between groupthink and individuality, between rational and emotional reactions, and between morality and immorality. How these play out, and how different people feel the influences of these, form a major subtext of Lord of the Flies
