Autumnal Equinox 2010 - First Day of Fall 2010

Autumnal Equinox 2010 - First Day of Fall 2010. Tomorrow, September 22, is the autumnal equinox and the official first day of fall 2010. The equinox occurs twice a year: the vernal (spring) and the autumnal. The equinox is when night and day are of approximately equal length because the earth’s axis is even with the Sun – not tilted towards or away from it.

With the onset of fall comes several pleasant aspects, especially for those of us who live in the Northeast. Apple-picking, crisp sunny days, football, hearty food, and baking season. But the advent of the autumnal equinox also means that the days will start getting shorter; it will be pitch dark when we wake up; it will start getting increasingly colder; and we have a good six months before beautiful, warm, lovely weather again.
