Ironman Lake PlacidFord Ironman Lake Placid 2010 - Ford Ironman Lake Placid will be required to make alterations to the bike course for this year's race due to road contruction. Changes to bike course of Ford Ironman Lake Placid triathlon scheduled for Sunday, July 25 will impact residents of Jay and Ausable Forks. Due to the bridge project over the Ausable River on Haselton Road in Wilmington, Route 9N from Jay to Ausable Forks will now comprise a 10.2 mile portion of the 56 mile bike circuit that racers will travel twice. Both lanes of Route 9N will be closed to non-essential vehicle traffic on race day between 8 am and 4:30 pm.

The 12th edition of the annual Ford Ironman Lake Placid triathlon will feature more than 2200 athletes hoping to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles. “Even though we are disappointed that the continuity of the longstanding Ford Ironman Lake Placid course cannot be maintained this year, we are excited to include another community in what is the biggest annual sporting event in the Adirondacks,” stated race director Jeff Edwards.

The bicycle leg turnaround point in Ausable Forks is just south of the Route 9N/College Street intersection. Jay, Keene, and points south will be accessible by way of a signed detour that utilizes Shell Drake Road, North Jay Road, Valley Road, and Trumbulls Corner Road. Wilmington, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid will be accessible by way of Guideboard Road, Silver Lake Road, and Bonnieview Road. Jeffrey Jones was arrested on June 23 because he had refused to update state records within five days of his last birthday, which fell on Sept. 28, 2009. In 2003, Jones was arrested for possession of child pornography and employing a 14-year-old boy to pose for pornographic photographs. Jones pled no contest to the felony charges and was ordered to undergo counseling and register as a sex offender. In July 2004, he was arrested by Florida police after failing to notify them of his change of residence. He has since been sued in civil court by the minor, who is now an adult. Jones was charged on June 30, 2010, in Los Angeles, with failing to update his sex offender registration status, a felony.
