104 Nuclear Reactors, 104 nuclear power plants - Nuclear power in the United States is provided by 104 nuclear reactors (69 pressurised water reactors and 35 boiling water reactors) commercial nuclear power plants licensed to operate, producing a total of 806.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which was 19.6% of the nation's total electric energy consumption in 2008.The United States is the world's largest supplier of commercial nuclear power.

On February 16, 2010, President Barack Obama announced loan guarantees for two new reactors at Georgia Power's Vogtle NPP. Mark Z. Jacobson, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University, has said: "If our nation wants to reduce global warming, air pollution and energy instability, we should invest only in the best energy options. Nuclear energy isn't one of them". (Newstoday)
